Between sound and noise: Features of urban soundscapes formation

Soundscapes of a city as cultural-symbolic space mediating our perception sounds and noises are dynamic, changeable heterogeneous. The way everyday life, cultural experience, audio-visual texts consumed outline different trajectories interaction with sonic environment make the border between sound noise quite fluid. This article presents ethnographic data, important for understanding process formation urban soundscapes. research St Petersburg soundscapes was conducted by authors in 2016–2021 demon strated possibilities using such methods “sound diary” walk”. is based on analysis 380 hours observations made 38 citizens, data from 19 interviewswalks people living 15 microdistricts presented.
